Being a central feature on the face, it is imperative that the nose provides harmony and balance. There are several ways in which the nose can be more of a detractor than a contributor to facial beauty. In our San Antonio offices, we enjoy helping patients regain their sense of confidence by addressing relevant cosmetic issues with nonsurgical rhinoplasty.
What Is A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
Historically, surgical rhinoplasty has been the only way to correct cosmetic flaws on the bridge or tip of the nose. While rhinoplasty surgery does offer unique benefits, we find that many people are more interested in achieving cosmetic improvements without a surgical procedure. The nonsurgical nose job can temporarily improve the general contours of the nose using nothing more than dermal fillers.
Candidates For A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
A fair amount of research and consideration is required to decide between nonsurgical rhinoplasty and a surgical nose job. We conduct a thorough consultation with each patient in order to fully understand their concerns and desired outcome. It is our objective to meet their needs and also recognize when nonsurgical rhinoplasty may not be sufficient to do that. We understand what fillers can do and what they cannot.
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty may be appropriate for people with a visible hump on the side or bridge of their nose, a flat ridge, slight crookedness, or with other contour irregularities.
One thing that this treatment cannot do is make the nose smaller. With careful technique, we can create that illusion but not literal correction. To make the nose smaller requires modification of the cartilage or bony structure.
How Is A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Performed?
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is not much different than an average dermal filler treatment. Before conducting injections, we perform a thorough consultation to discuss the concerns a patient has. A brief look at the nose provides us with the information we need to confirm that injectable treatment can achieve the desired improvement.
After our initial assessment and application of numbing cream, the areas that will be injected may be marked with removable ink. Injections are administered conservatively, with several observations taking place throughout the process. This method of treatment allows us to sculpt the nose one small adjustment at a time.
As soon as treatment is done, patients can immediately get back to their busy life with a beautiful new nose.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Vs. Surgical Rhinoplasty
There are clear differences between surgical and nonsurgical rhinoplasty. These differences do not make one better than the other but they may mean that one is a better choice for some than others.
Surgical rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. Most rhinoplasty procedures take approximately 2 hours to complete. Surgery may involve an open or closed technique, which relates to the type of incision made to access internal structure. During rhinoplasty, a surgeon corrects bone and cartilage to refine the shape and size of one or more areas of the nose. Patients need 2 to 3 weeks to recover from rhinoplasty surgery and continue to see improvements for several months as tissue settles.
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty does not correct the structures that give the nose its shape. This treatment does not require anesthesia and it is completed in less than half an hour in most cases. The injections of dermal fillers are performed strategically to give the illusion that the nose is straight, narrow, and otherwise more symmetrical with the face.
Is A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Painful?
We do all that we can to make our patients comfortable during injectable treatments. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty may involve applying ice or topical numbing cream beforehand to minimize the sensation of the tiny needle on the skin. Hyaluronic acid permeating superficial tissue also does not hurt; this substance is already present in the skin so it integrates seamlessly.
Will Filler Injections Make My Nose Look Bigger?
By nature, dermal fillers work by increasing volume in superficial tissue. If you were to look solely at the nose, it may appear that a nonsurgical nose job increases size. The same can be said of surgical rhinoplasty, however. The objective of any rhinoplasty is to improve contours and the relationship between the nose and the face. A slight increase in size, then, is not as dramatic as it may sound.
What are the Risks Of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
There are minimal side effects to nonsurgical rhinoplasty when performed by an experienced injector. Typical risks include temporary redness, swelling, and possible bruising. More significantly, injections could result in infection or asymmetry, though this is rare.
Are Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Results Permanent?
A nonsurgical nose job can result in temporary but long-term results. Factors that contribute to the longevity of results include the type of dermal filler selected for treatment and the speed at which the body naturally metabolizes that filler. Generally, patients should expect their results to last 12 months to two years.
Can The Filler Be Dissolved If I Don’t Like The Final Result?
Yes. One of the advantages of nonsurgical rhinoplasty treatment is that, when a hyaluronic acid (HA) product is used, the effects can be reversed with a few injections of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks up HA particles.
