Hair loss has many causes, including genetics, age, hormonal changes, stress, diseases like alopecia areata, and more. While it is not generally painful, it can be emotionally distressing and lead to a lack of confidence.
Luckily, hair loss treatments are available to treat patients struggling with hair loss. The Bucay Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics provides two professional hair loss treatment options: Keralase and Eclipse PRP. If you’re interested in growing thicker, fuller hair, learn which options may be right for you.
What is Eclipse PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma, which is your own platelets harvested in a small amount of plasma. When applied to the targeted areas, it can release growth factors that aid in treating hair loss.
Your platelets are harvested by collecting a small amount of blood, which is then placed in a centrifuge. This process separates the blood from the platelets so it can be applied to the targeted areas of your body.
Ideal Candidates
Those who will benefit the most from PRP are patients who are in the early stages of hair loss because there are still detectable hair follicles. Patients with alopecia areata would not experience benefits from this form of treatment.
How Does Keralase Differ?
Keralase uses an entirely different process than PRP. In this treatment, LaseMD Ultra is used to prepare the targeted area of skin for treatment by creating microchannels for the scalp to collect the serum. This only takes about five to 10 minutes. KeraFactor serum, a blend of growth factors that will stimulate hair growth and scalp health, is then applied to the area.
Ideal Candidates
Keralase is a great treatment option for both patients who are experiencing mild to moderate hair loss due to aging, pregnancy, or menopause. Further, patients with alopecia areata should consult with their doctor to determine if Keralase is the right option for them. Some forms of alopecia, such as scarring alopecia, are not recommended for this treatment.
